A message to all holders of an expired Ethiopian Origin ID Card.

In December 2014 the Ethiopian government introduced a late fee for those who do not renew their Ethiopian Origin ID Card prior to the expiry date on their ID card.

However, the Ethiopian Government has announced a temporary amnesty for those wishing to renew their expired Ethiopian Origin ID Card. All ID Card renewal applications that are received before close of business on Thursday 6 August 2015 will not be charged any late fees.

The applications must have physically arrived at the Embassy and been received along with all required documentation mentioned on this website before the close of business on the 6 August 2015. All ID Card applications received after 6 August 2015 will be charged late fees according to the relevant directives.

Note:

  • Late fees will be charged from the day after the ID Card expires, not the day the amnesty finishes.
  • All expired Ethiopian Origin ID Cards may be renewed, however, those who have already lodged their applications with late fees will not be receiving a rebate.
